A Very Good Day Indeed.

So. Today was my second to last day of classes for this semester. Eek. I know this is an old person thing to say, but I just really don't know where the time went. I actually feel like the first class was a week ago. Somehow I managed to wrangle a pretty good exam schedule and it will all be over and done with in a little under a week and a half which means that I should have gone into full-on hibernation study mode... yesterday.
I think I can, I think I can.

My outfit details for today:
Dress: Flavour Boutique & Consignment
Cardigan: thrifted (kensie girl)
Belt: thrifted
Tights: American Apparel warehouse sale
socks: American Apparel
Boots: Macy's

Luckily, I had something to beat the end-of-semester blues. I got to see my favourite author, Chuck Palahniuk in a signing and reading event tonight! Eek. A nerdy event, to be sure, but an amazzzzing one. I've been to a couple readings of different authors before (because I'm a really big nerd) and they've all been perfectly lovely, but none have been quite as fun as tonight's event.
There was readings from his new stuff, short stories, and a general Q&A period. He has a great stage presence and was incredibly engaging and that just made it so so fun. And there were games! Games where the prizes were BOOKS. Be still, my ferociously beating nerd heart. Books for prizes is what the dreams of seven-year-old-me were made of. And come to it, the dreams of 22-year-old-me. Some things never change.

Here are some pictures of my fantastic evening:
And now, I'm hibernating. Come find me in two weeks time, after Ive emerged from the cocoon of looseleaf papers, dead pens and half-finished cups of tea.

If I could steal any hairstyle and wardrobe...

It would be Zooey Deschanel. Hands down, no questions asked. She's just the cutest thing! I regularly love her outfits and with the exception of the questionable stint as a blonde in Elf, her hairstyle rarely misses.

Ever since her show "The New Girl" aired (which I was on the fence about, but has been growing on me) people have been telling me that her character Jess reminds them of me. I like to think it's because I'm so incredibly adorable and well-dressed, but the more likely reason is that I like to sing what I'm doing, responses, or make up songs about stuff. All. The. Time.

And a singing voice is not something I am in possession of. It gets kind of ugly, not going to lie.

Anyway, was just perusing the interwebz and found all her adorableness encapsulated into photo montage and thought I'd post them together to make a style board for myself.

The Problem with Taking Pictures of Yourself, By Yourself, in Public

It's weird. People can see you. They look as they walk by. You don't want it to be too busy a location, but secluded makes it somewhat weirder. My campus right now is absolutely busting at the seams with inspirational fall colours with saturated reds, yellows, and oranges galore.
But can I use that as my backdrop?
No.
At least not as long as I'm taking pictures of myself, by myself.

So, I had to duck behind the Starbucks to get these outfit pictures. Beside the garbage cans. My name is Juliana, and I am a weirdo.

Outfit details:
Cardigan- Ann Taylor outlet
Top- Buffalo Exchange (Ann Taylor Loft- I'm such a grownup)
Necklace- Local artisan
Jeans- Thrifted, (Garage)
Boots- Macy's

An Unexcused Absense

It's been a busy couple of weeks over here. I have a serious problem in which I just keep signing up for new commitments! So, now on top of full time classes and a job, I am a once-a-week reading buddy, involved in the Students for Literary Club, attempting to complete an online TEFL course (which I am doing with flying colours, thank you very much), a peer-reviewer for the my faculty's annual journal, a poll-sitter for the recent school elections, working as a Brand Ambassador and trying to research volunteer programs for my planned stint to India next fall. PLUS Christmas is just around the corner, so I've started knitting like a fiend, obviously.

I got exhausted just typing that. Yeesh.

But it's not all commitments and work. Last week, I went to Portland with my parents and grandmother and it was an absolutely perfect escape from the crazy. I completely fell in love with the city, ate the most amazing collection of food, and went a little shopping crazy (hello, no taxes?!)

I didn't take a bunch of pictures, but here's a few:

I really love the architecture, and how the city of Portland has incorporated
the old buildings into the city as opposed to just tearing them down and
starting new.

My mushroom soup first course at Le Petit Ouiseau.
Absolutely phenomenal.

All the trees were just gorgeous colours.

It's Official

I suck at nail art. I tried to do this two times and this was the better of the two results. Awful. Just awful- waste of nailpolish, waste of nailpolish remover.

The Things I Wear

Back with day two? The next day? I know, I know, I'm a rockstar. I didn't wear this today, but earlier this week this was an outfit I got lots of compliments on which is always a lovely way to spend a day. This outfit is actually a bunch of stuff I've had forever all lumped together in one outfit. Here are the outfit details:

cardigan- Gap outlet, 2009
T-shirt- Old Navy, 2008
Big gold necklace- Buffalo Exchange
Belt- thrifted, 2008
Skirt- Buffalo Exchange, 2009
Wedged boots- Sears, 2011

Today was a sad day.
A very sad day indeed. I ate my last pumpkin-cream-cheese-filling-muffin! Considering I made 24 earlier this week, it's mostly sad they were eaten that quickly, but I'm also sad I don't get to eat them anymore.

I have a very committed relationship to food.

Im attempting a new nailpolish technique now, I'll let you know how it goes. Should be interesting, because I suck at nails.

I'll be sure to include the bloopers.

A MIxing of the Seasons

Continuing in the vein of procrastination, erm, I mean inspiration, here is my very first outfit post for this blog! I've done weekly wears series before, but I can't really commit to that at the moment, so outfit posts are going to be intermittent for now.

This is what I wore yesterday to work. It was a crazy day- when I left the house it was sunny and warm and for the rest of the day it was pouring on and off. I tell you, west coast weather is bipolar and it's definitely reflected in my seasonally confused outfit- summer dress, scarf and tights. And sunglasses. Yep, it's the fashionable equivalent to socks and sandals. Yuck.
Outfit details:

Faux Ray-Bans: MEC
Jean jacket: thrifted
Infinity scarf: gift
Dress: Mexico marketplace
Belt: thrifted
Tights: American Apparel factory sale
Moccasins: Sitka Skate and Surf

Okay, I'll admit it, I kind of missed outfit posts.

Hullo there

Hullo!
I've had this little corner of internet real estate since the beginning of July and along with the mid-semester cleaning fury I'm doing right now, I thought I'd add my blog to the list of things I'd pick up, dust off, and start using. You may call that procrastination from editing my paper/cleaning my room/going grocery shopping, but I call it inspiration.

It's not my fault inspiration strikes when I should be doing other things.

I was previously sharing a craft blog with a friend that has since gone defunct. One of the main reasons I left this blog to sit so long was because I just couldn't figure out what I could blog about that would be interesting and different enough from the other 189300000 blogs out there that are crafty/fashion-based/foody/lifestyle focused. And then I realized that I would never come up with a gimmick I liked enough and that just blogging and seeing what came out was the best plan of attack. So, here it is, my craft/food/fashion/rant/lifestyle/desgin/book and movie review blog! I can't promise I'll blog everyday, or even every week, but I promise that I will always bring a touch of sparkle.
